“Comparison truly is the thief of joy
- We all do it!”
It’s so hard not to, I think it has become an even bigger challenge in the age of social media
highlights. At the end of the day though, each of us is exactly where we are. We can only progress by owning the stage we are at, then progressively taking action to improve.
If you have just started your journey as a Pilates teacher or are in the middle of your training, comparing yourself to teachers who have been teaching for 6 months to 6 years, is not going to help you! Being inspired by the instructors around you though is very different to comparing yourself to them. Inspiration – In, Comparison - Out
We all have to start somewhere!
We would never expect a new participant in a Pilates class to be amazing from the first class, in fact we simply support them to grow and improve at their own pace. We need to apply this to ourselves when we start to teach. Expect to get nervous, expect to say the wrong thing, expect to muddle up your flows. It’s ok! You are learning. Give yourself the same compassion and support you give the new people in your class.
I promise it won’t take too long – realistically at least 12-18mths for you to find your groove! In the meantime commend yourself for learning something new, for taking the leap to become a Pilates teacher – one of the most rewarding jobs in the world! We think you are incredible for following your passion!
